Administrative rights
In certain cases the RKD will charge a fee for administrative rights. For more information see Rates. As stated in our terms of delivery the responsibility for attaining rights to the visual material used rests with the user.

Copyright Art Works
Photographs of art works by living artists or by artists who died less than seventy years ago cannot be reproduced without prior permission by the artist concerned or their heir/legal representative. The user is responsible for contacting the artist or heir/legal representative, or alternatively contact  Pictoright who manages the copyrights of many artists.

Copyright Photographs
Prior permission must be obtained from the photographer or the heir/legal representative in the case of reproduction of photographs of three-dimensional art works or works containing three-dimensional depictions, and photographs which are deemed to be art works. Contact Burafo Foundation to obtain addresses of photographers or photo studios.

Copyright Archives
Photographs of or citations from archive records may not be reproduced without prior permission by the RKD, the author of the manuscript or letter concerned , the person(s) mentioned in the archive and their heir(s) or legal representative(s) if copyright regulations still apply. See for further information the Dutch Personal Data Protection Act (Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens) with regards to information given archives which can be traced back to identifiable persons.
