married to 1) Cathlijne van Hoeck/ van Haecken (universal heir in his will of 8 November 1653) and 2) in Antwerp in 1658 to Suzanna Dooms; he had 2 daughters (Catharina and Anna Maria) and two sons, Judocus and Mattheus II, both sculptors; their daughter Catharina was married to painter Nicolaes van Verendael; Anna Maria married to Jan Anhoni van Meurs (litigation concerning a child, that van Meurs had either to take on in his house or pay alimony for: the parents seem to be divorced: on 18 September 1685 litigation against van Meurs, who tried to poison his wife Maria; half-brother of scultor Adriaen Cocx; after Mattheus death bitter litigation between Catharina and widow Susanna Dooms, as the latter kept the demise of her husband a secret so she could manipulate the inheretance to her advantage (van Hemeldonck 2007).
