baptized on 27 September 1626 in the Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. In a document dated 16 May 1672, published by Bredius, Du Jardin is mentioned as about 50 years. As a consequence, his birth was previously estimated as c. 1622 (Kilian 2005, p. 11).
Overleden
Venetië 1678-10/1678-10-09
According to Houbraken, who had this information from Johannes Glauber, he died because he ate too much (Houbraken 1718-1721); buried 9 October 1678 (Kilian 2005, p. 15). The actual date of his burial, 9 October 1678, was discovered by L. Calzoni and first published by Limentani Virdis/Banzato 1990, p. 24. Karel died in the house of a Dutch merchant in the parish of San Cassiano from fever and infection. See Kilian 2005, p. 14-15 and 107, doc. 103.

  • Amsterdam 1646 - 1648
According to Hoogewerff, (Hoogewerff 1952, p. 93) he was already in Italy between 1642 to 1647. There is no proof whatsoever that Du Jardin went to Italy around his 20th year; Kilian 2005 does not mention a journey to Italy at such a young age.
  • Lyon 1648 - 1649
Possibly shortly before 1650 in Lyon (Kilian 2005, p. 7). According to Houbraken Du Jardin met his future wife in Lyon, but this is possibly not right.
  • Parijs 1649 - 1650
Lived in 1649 in the Rue des Petits-Champs in Paris; married 24 December 1649 in Paris to Susanna van Roy, originally from Antwerp, widow of Martin Linssen, also formerly from Antwerp. Karel lived before his marriage in 1649 to her in the same street as she: rue des Ménéstriers. The couple kept an inn, frequented by many artists mainly from the Low Countries (N/S) (Mandrella 2012, p. 287, note 7); signed a deed in Amsterdam on 29 August 1650 and called himself a merchant on his way to Paris (Kilian 2005, p. 7).
  • Amsterdam 1651-02 - 1655
back in Amsterdam, living on Rozengracht (Mandrella 2012) February 1651 , still mentioned there in 1652 and in September 1655 (Kilian 2005, p. 8). Possibly he was in Rome between 1652 and 1655 (according to Mandrella 2012, p. 290, possibly in 1653). According to Noack 1927, he was in Rome c. 1650-1655.

  • Texel (eiland) 1675-03-24 - 1675-08-02
On March 24 1675 he left for Texel, to travel on August 2 by ship to Italy, together with Gerard and Abraham van Reynst, younger brothers of Joan Reynst (1636-1695) (Bikker 2009).

  • Algiers 1675-10-14
Malaga was passed on October 6 and Algiers was reached on the 14th October.
  • Rome 1675 - 1678
Eventually he reached Rome (Kilian 2005, p. 14); documented there in 1675, 1676 and 1678. According to Houbraken du Jardin was not a member of the Bentvogels in Rome. However, he got a Bent-name: Bockbaert (goat's beard) (Hoogewerff 1952).
