Hier wordt vermeld waar de kunstenaar (langere tijd) heeft gewerkt en in welke periode. Ook relevante studiereizen worden hier vermeld.
  • Leiden (stad) 1611 - 1616
Niclaes's mother remarried and moved to Leiden in 1612, taking him alone. In 1649 a Niclaes Adriaenssen became a master of the guild, with the mention 'niet meer in wesen', i.e. died shortly after 1649: our Niclaes? (Spiessen 2011). According to Levert 2007A he died in Leiden in 1648.
  • Antwerpen (stad) 1616 - 1658-04-09
Niclaes returned in 1616 and moved in with his brother Alexander. According to Spiessen 2011, he stayed in Antwerp until 1658, if it is indeed our Nicolaes, who died on April 9, 1658 and was buried in the St. Walburgiskerk (Spiessen 2011). This does not tally however with all the facts we know from his stay in Paris:
  • Parijs 1632 - 1647
married here on 17 February 1632. He was known in Paris as Nicolas Adrien. In a deed of 6 September 1633 (acording to Toliopoulou 1991: 6 August 1633) he is called 'master painter from Antwerp' (which is not supported by the Guild data from Antwerp), living in the rue du Figuier, paroisse Saint-Paul. Later he rented a house in the rue du petit Lion. In 1636 he became free master in the Guild in Paris. On 1 July 1641: power of attorney from "Nicolas Adrien, master painter in Paris residing there rue Grenier Saint-Lazare, parish of Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs", to "Marie Bouré, his wife", so that she can manage their property (sales, transport, annuity arrears, etc.); the deed is signed "Nicla Adriu" (Arch. Nat. Paris, publ. Levert 2017A, Annex 2021) In 1647 his wife was godmother of a child of the painter Alexandre David, while Vincent Adriaenssen was the godfather at this occasion. In 1641 he gave his wife power of attorney, probably as he temporarily returned to Antwerp (Levert 2017A, Annex 2021). On 28 November 1647 his wife is godmother of François-Vincent, son of Alexandre David (Toliopoulou 1991)
