Hier wordt vermeld waar de kunstenaar (langere tijd) heeft gewerkt en in welke periode. Ook relevante studiereizen worden hier vermeld.
  • Brussel 1659 - 1686
Medina's Spanish father, Capitán M. de Caustanais de L'Asturias, permanently settled in Brussels as a stationed officer of the Spanish crown. He got his first training in Brussels by François Duchatel (Saur 2016).
  • Londen (Engeland) 1686 - 1695
In the 1690s, Medina successfully ran a studio on Drury Lane with several assistants, undercutting Kneller's prices by as much as twothirds. In the beginning he also worked on and off in Scotland, till he permanently moved to Edinburgh with his large family in (probably) 1695 and gave up his London studio (Apted/Hannabuss 1978; Saur 2016).
  • Edinburgh 1693 - 1710
Came to Scotland at the invitation of the Earl of Leven. Although he was going to paint only twelve faces of full-length portraits to be finished in London, he settled in Scotland. In 1707 Medina was knighted, just before Scotland lost its independance. Naturalized as burgess of Edinburgh in 1707(Apted/Hannabuss 1978). Around 1700 a dilettante, William Aikman, worked in Medina's studio as assistant.
