Son of Martin Regnesson and Simone Hardy. On June 27th 1649, he got married to Marguerite Isaac, the daughter of Jaspar Isaac, in presence of Jaspar and Claude Isaac, Jean Ganière, Gaspard Firens and of Robert Nanteuil (who had married his sister, Jeanne Regnesson, in 1646). The marriage contract was signed June 20th 1649: among the witnesses one may note Jean Ganière, engraver and printseller, master of Nicolas Regnesson during his apprenticeship. The couple had 2 daughters: Jeanne (1651), whose godfather was Jaspar Isaac and godmother Jeanne Regnesson, and who married Jean Le Blond; and Madeleine (1653), who married Gérard Edelinck (Grivel 1986). This last wedding was attended by Jean-Baptiste and Philippe de Champaigne and Charles Le Brun. On May 27th 1647, Nicolas Regnesson became the godfather of his niece Nicole-Genevieve Nanteuil in the church of Saint-Eustache; on December 29th 1667 he was the best man at Michel Hardouin' wedding in the church of Saint-André-des-Arts (Saur 2018). After his death, his widow continued to hold the shop 'Le Séraphin'. She was buried on June 18th 1672, and Gérard Edelinck took over 'Le Séraphin' (Grivel 1986).

Rubens en J. Brueghel I).
He is probably supported by staff members such as Jean Collin l'Ancien (1623). In 1659, he cooperated with Pierre II Mariette and Nicolas de Poilly for 'La France ressuscitée' after Jean Lepautre (1618), 'La France habillée à la française' engraved by the latter, and 'Les illustres étrennes' (Saur 2018).
Biografische gegevens
Werkzaam in
Hier wordt vermeld waar de kunstenaar (langere tijd) heeft gewerkt en in welke periode. Ook relevante studiereizen worden hier vermeld.
  • Parijs 1637 - 1640
From 1637 on he followed a three-year training in drawing and engraving with Jean Ganière in Paris(Grivel 1986; Saur 2018).
  • Reims 1640 - 1642
In 1640 he was back in Reims, where he opened a studio and worked for the Benedictines of the city. In Reims. he trained Robert Nanteuil in drawing and engraving: they created several engravings together. Two engravings show that Regnesson sold his production in Reims: 'Les Écoliers de l'université de Reims honorent la Ste Vierge conçue sans péché' after Nicolas Harmant (c. 1645), and 'Les Vœux de l'Archevêque de Reims' after his own drawing (c. 1646) (Saur 2018). His presence in Reims is also evidenced by his 'Bataille de Lerida gagnée le 7 octobre (1642)... gravée a Reims par Regnesson' (Grivel 1986).
  • Parijs 1646 - 1670
He settled in Paris at the end of 1646 or at the beginnning of 1647 (Saur 2018). He established his shop rue Saint-Jacques, in the Saint-Séverin parish, under the house sign 'Au Séraphin' (formerly 'Le Chameau', for which his wife had a lease according to Saur 2018): he rented this house for 3 years from Etienne Roullet on May 14th 1659, and renewed it on July 6th 1660, May 1st 1663 and July 15th 1666. On December 28th 1668, Nicolas Regnesson transferred his lease to the bookseller Jean Cusson: he must then have moved around this date (Grivel 1986).
