According to Van Mander 1604 he was born in Haarlem in 1566; 1562 or 1563; in a deed of August 1, 1608 Hendrik Cornelisz. Vroom gave his age as 45 years (Van Thiel-Strohman 2006, p. 332, 339, n. 1); according to Alsteens/Buijs/Mathot 2008 he was possibly born in 1566.

Son of the sculptor and ceramist Cornelis Hendricksen Vroom (died 1573) and Cornelia Lourensdr. (died 1573). He married to Joosje Cornelisdr. Gans (ca. 1568 - 1643), in Haarlem in 1590. He is the father of Cornelia Hendricksdr. Vroom (died 1661), Cornelis Hendriksz. Vroom (ca. 1592 - 1661), Frederik Hendriksz. Vroom (1600 - 1667) and Jacob Hendriksz. Vroom (born 1601). He is a nephew of Frederik Hendriksz Vroom (Frohme)

According to Van Mander he painted an altarpiece for the Jesuits (Gerson 1942/1983, p. 499). According to Gerson this trip took place in 1584; however, this was probably 1591. On December 18, 1591 they were in any case back in Haarlem (Biesboer/Köhler et al. 2006, p. 333).
