Governing period as the Duke of Savoy from 1630 to 1637. He grew up at the court in Madrid. He expanded the collection of paintings of his father. It contained many paintings of Breughel family. His couson Cardinal Antonio Barberini sent him paintings by famous masters from Rome, to thank him for the support of Barberini, who was elected in 1623 as Pope (Urban VIII). It is not known excatly which painting this concerned.
