Governing period as the Duke of Savoy from 1630 to 1637. He grew up at the court in Madrid. He expanded the collection of paintings of his father. It contained many paintings of Breughel family. His cousin Cardinal Antonio Barberini sent him paintings by famous masters from Rome, to thank him for the support of Maffeo Barberini, who was elected in 1623 as Pope (Urban VIII). It is not known exactly which paintings this concerned.
