Francesco Gonzaga (II)

Francesco was the fourth Marquess of Mantua and famous as condottiere. Gonzaga was patron of Andrea Mantegna, whom he gave many commissions. He was also a collector of art, especially of coins and books (mainly about horses, falcons and agriculture). The court of Francesco and his wife Isabella d'Este is regarded to be one of the most important cultural centres in Europe in the Renaissance.
