Farnese commissioned the construction of the Jesuit Church Il Gesù and the Villa Farnese in Viterbo.He was patron of Giorgio Vasari, Titian, Francesco Salviati, Giulio Clovio, Jacopo Vignola, the brothers Taddeo and Federico Zucccaro. His collection counted many antique sculptures, of which some were later drawn by Netherlandish artists, such as Maarten van Heemskerck, Maarten de Vos, Hendrik Goltzius and Peter Paul Rubens.
