    In Milan he was aprentice of Michiel van den Sande from Utrecht, who neglected him badly, according to Ter Brugghen and Van Galen. The same witnesses testified, that Francois worked with another Northern artist, who was married to an Italian woman, to earn his own keep (Briels 1997, p. 351 under Jacques Lemmens, note 3). Together with Van den Sande, Hendrick Ter Brugghen and Thyman van Galen he returned home and crossed the Gotthard.
