    With the accession of Augustus the Strong (April 1694) he was called back from Rome in 1695. He quickly rose in the service of the Elector and king and attained the highest offices. He was of decisive importance for the artistic life of Saxony and especially Dresden, which became through his activities 'Florence on the Elbe river' (Thieme/Becker 1942).
