    In 1709 Denner painted miniatures of Charles Frederick, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp and his sister Marie Elisabethin miniature in Gottorp Castle, where he stayed. In 1712 he made an enormous group portrait of 21 persons of the court of the Duke of Oldenburg.

    On his way to England he vsited Adriaen van der Werff, who said that one of his female portraits could only be compared to the Mona Lisa (!). He stayed with the Dutch/British merchant Benjamin Furly (Niemeijer 1970, p. 201-202; De Bruijn Kops 1988, p. 167)
